Solana Beach Lifeguards

Established in 1987, the Solana Beach Department of Marine Safety is dedicated to providing the safest possible environment for beach-goers in the City of Solana Beach. The Department maintains a year-round staff of three lifeguards and 35 seasonal employees. Administrative duties are provided by the City of Solana Beach Director of Public Safety.

The Department of Marine Safety performs a variety of preventative actions: rescuing swimmers and surfers; recognition of potential dangers; identification and marking of hazardous swimming areas; establishing safe swimming and surfing areas; enforcing beach-related City ordinances; and, providing aquatic safety education to the public.

The Solana Beach Junior Lifeguards, one of San Diego County's longest running and most established water safety programs, returns to the beach every summer. The comprehensive program is under the direction of the City of Solana Beach's Marine Safety Unit.

Lifeguards are on duty from 8am to 6pm during winter months and from 8am to 8pm during the summer months. Beach and street patrol year-round.
