Solana Beach Fire Department

Fire Chief/Public Safety Director
David Ott

Deputy Fire Chief/Fire Marshal
Dismas Abelman

The Solana Beach Fire Department is continually advancing to administer top-notch service through effective emergency response, public education and technical training. The Department is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Solana Beach and surrounding areas.

The Fire Station is staffed 24-hours a day and operates with two fire crews, three personnel on each of two firetrucks. In addition to the six firefighters that respond from this station, there are two paramedics operating an ambulance owned by Rural Metro. These crews function together on a shift basis with a total of 18 line firefighters and six private paramedics. Eight of the line firefighters are also paramedics.

In 2009, the Fire Department added a new 105 foot Pierce Ladder truck to their emergency response vehicle lineup. This additon replaces a 50 foot General Tele-Squirt truck that had been in service since 1989.

The fire Department coordinates the Community Emergency response Team (CERT) for the City of Solana Beach. The CERT team educates people about disaster preparedness, potential hazards, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disater medical operations. They use these life-and property-saving skills to assist the community in the event of a disaster when professional services have not yet arrived.

The Solana Beach Fire Department participated in the Live Auction for the Solana Beach Ball 2009 on April 18. Auctioned off: Three Alarm Dinner with the Solana Beach Fire Department (up to 10 people). Enjoy a private tour of the Solana Beach Fire Department’s station house, fire engines and fire-fighting equipment. Our local team of firefighters will then join your group for dinner at the fire station located on Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Nardo Drive.

Off-duty, the Solana Beach firefighters can be seen around the city raising money for the Burn Institute at surf contests, the Burn Run, the Destruction Derby car race, and the Solana Beach Fiesta Del Sol Firefighters Pancake Breakfast. The department has also donated a bench to the neighborhood Vons, and in past years, brought the fire truck to soccer games to watch a team they sponsored.
